How every number on this page is worked out

This page names ten companies and compares them directly, so every figure says what it is counted over. Follower change is measured on each platform separately and then added, because a day when one platform did not report would otherwise look like a drop. Response means likes plus comments. It is the only thing every platform here publishes. We divide it by followers because a company with twenty million followers will always collect more likes than one with three hundred thousand, so the raw total only tells you who is bigger. Per thousand followers asks the more useful question: of the people who already chose to follow, how many bothered to react. Views are shown only where the platform publishes them: LinkedIn publishes none at all, so it appears in every response figure and in no views figure. Where a company is compared against another, the audience used is the one it held on 6 April, at the start of the follower window, on the platforms it both posted to and we can read. That is an earlier and smaller audience than it held while posting, so every figure of this kind is generous to the fast-growing accounts, and it is applied the same way to everybody. Every chart can be copied or downloaded as a 1600×900 image.
